Procurement organisations invest significant time and money into learning & development and the typical tactical approach is to select a mixture of training courses each year for their teams to attend. However the improvements are often disappointing as there is no linkage to the specific development needs of individuals in the team or their business challenges.
We believe that the guess work should be taken out of all investment in team development by using a full competency assessment. We have worked with leading organisations, & our colleagues in DILF, to develop a comprehensive assessment tool, Compass, covering both functional and business competencies.
We have grouped the competencies into 10 clusters:
Each organisation is unique, with its own structure, objectives, job specification and HR driven initiatives. We work with our clients to customise our competency framework to fully match with their specific needs. The on-line competency assessment is carried out through a mixture of self assessment and interviews.
Analysing the results and developing a targeted learning & development programme is carried out jointly with the client, with a real focus on addressing the major competency gaps that are essential to improving the performance of the organisation.
Information about the four steps needed to carry out a comprehensive competency assessment programme can be found in our Insight Guide Identifying & addressing skills gaps in the procurement team.
