Welcome to the February edition of FP Viewpoint.

This month our theme is the critical activity of aligning category management with the business.

We explore three of the findings from the FP 2016-17 Category Management Report:

  • Aligning category management with broader business strategic objectives
  • Aligning category management with related business processes
  • Jointly agreeing with stakeholders an annual plan of category projects

The survey results demonstrate that most progress has been made with alignment on strategic objectives, and the least on aligning processes. The extract also includes key recommendations on driving improvement for these practices.

In the report we identified the 19 Top Category Management Capabilities that drive Category Management Performance and Company Performance. Three of the practices in the top 10 specifically relate to business alignment and are ranked as 1, 4 and 8.
